Whalom Park opens in Lunenburg.

Originally an English-style park of paths and gardens, it is created by a streetcar operator in Leominster and Fitchburg to lure riders. A carousel is added in 1914 The first roller coaster is installed in the 1920s and is replaced in the early 1940s by one that becomes known as the “Black Hole.” The amusement park closes in 2000 and the site is being turned into a condominium development.
